We’ve made it! Half term is nearly here! A big thank you to everyone for all your hard work this term - I hope everyone has learned lots and had lots of fun in the process! Now it’s time to kick back and enjoy the holiday before coming back to school refreshed and ready to work hard again. I hope you all have a wonderful break.
This month’s school newsletter will be emailed out to you today so that you can read all about what we’ve been up to and all of our school news.
Morning all!
I was having a chat with Matilda’s dad last night who had very kindly switched off three lights on people’s bikes when he came to collect Matilda from school. These lights must have been on all day ( I bet my bike was one of them!!) Please remember to switch off your bike lights when you reach your destination. Remember the police can not only stop you for not having lights but also if they are not bright enough! Be Wise, Be Safe, Be Seen….AND avoid a FINE! Please make sure your batteries are charged so your lights are bright enough to avoid you being charged!!!
Remember Miss Oosterhuis and Miss Roosma’s Road Safety Club begins after half term. If you haven’t signed up but are interested in joining, please add a comment to this blog.
Year 4 have had an historically fun week so far this week dressing up as Romans and Celts and the activities continue this afternoon with a slave auction! Not sure how this will work, but Ms. Welsh has assured me that I don’t have to be a slave myself. Groups of children will be undertaking tasks around the school in return for earning their freedom. Slaves are auctioned to the highest bidder. How does my bid stand Ms. Welsh?
Enjoy the afternoon all and I look forward to seeing all your costumes once again. Please remember to take some good photos to put on display, post on our blog and add to next month’s newsletter. (Parents - this month’s newsletter is due out Friday this week - have a good holiday read!)
Morning Bloggers,
Thanks for visiting our weblog to keep up to date and involved in the life at the Upper Junior School. By following the links on the right-hand side you can also see other UJS blogs such as Year 4, Year 5, Year 6 and Dutch. All well worth a visit to see what we’re up to and to read reports, see photos or even pick up a copy of this week’s homework!
Things to look out for later this week… feedback from the recent School Dinner survey and proposed winter menu to start after half term; our second school newsletter… should both make for good holiday reading!
One week to go before half term and, once again, a busy week for us all at the Upper Junior School. We start the week with our School photographs today - hope you’re all looking smart! This afternoon and Wednesday afternoon Year 4 are having Roman afternoons as part of their history topic and tomorrow they are all off out to Archeon for the day. We will be closing our SEAL topic about New Beginnings and reflecting on the work we’ve done this half term. Friday is Achievement assembly and there is no swimming this week due to the Dutch half term holiday. Have a great week!
Open Week
We’ve had lots of parent visitors in class and about the school this week during open week. I hope everyone has enjoyed the experience! This morning is Achievement Assembly in the hall and, of course, all parents are more than welcome to attend (you might even get a certificate!).
Supervisory Board Elections
Last night parent elections were held to elect members of the supervisory board. Can I just say a big thank you to all those who gave up their time to help with the organisation, counting of the votes etc. The elections ran smoothly and members of the supervisory board have been successfully elected. Details of the successful candidiates will follow shortly.
School Photographs
Don’t forget that school photographs will be taken on Monday so please come to school wearing full school uniform and looking beautiful!
Roman Events for Year 4
On Monday and Wednesday afternoon next week, Year 4 will be involved in a series of fun Roman events. Children should bring a Roman or Celt costume to school to change into at lunch time. This could be as simple as a plain sheet which could be worn as a tunic. On Tuesday, Year 4 will also visit a Roman theme park called Archeon and will be out of school for most of the day. They should bring a waterproof jacket, a packed lunch and snack, a water bottle and should come to school wearing full school uniform.
Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend and works hard next week before the half term break!
Morning Bloggers, Morning Voters!
Tonight we have our elections for the new British School of Amsterdam Supervisory Board. Doors open at the Upper School at 19:00 for registration which closes at 19:45. Presentations start at 20:00 followed by voting. Hope to see you there!
Part of our Achievement Assembly tomorrow morning will be the prize draw for our School Dinners Survey. Some great prizes to be won for those of you who have completed the questionnaire, and we thank you for taking the time to let us know your opinions and ideas. As it is Open Week this assembly is open for all our parents to attend and experience an Upper Junior Achievemnet Assembly. Hope to see you there!
Morning all!
Thanks to all of you who have already completed our survey on school dinners. For those of you who have yet to return the survey and would like to be entered into the raffle prize draw, please return your completed survey to your class teacher TOMORROW morning. The purpose of the survey is to help us to continue to make improvements to our hot meal service and to prepare the winter menu that starts after half term. Your opinion counts, so we really encourage you to complete the survey. Raffle tickets will be given to each child who returns the survey and prize winners will be announced in assembly on Friday morning. Special thanks to Mrs Dawes and Mrs Schmit for their help and organisation of this project.
Good morning everyone!
I hope you all had a good day yesterday. It was great to see so many parents around the school and in classes for our Open Week. In our SEAL Assembly, Miss Dillon managed to cover Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, as well as Australian Aboriginal Creation myths. Remember to think about what your perfect world would be like.
Year Four went on an Art Walk around the ArtZuid Open Sculpture exhibition, and the rain managed to hold off until we got back, allowing the children time to sketch a range of different sculptures in the Autumn Sunshine - many thanks to all the parents who came and supported us.
And last Friday, Miss Oosterhuis’s native Dutch group visited the Centraal Library as part of Children’s Book week - check out the Upper Junior Dutch Blog for pictures!
Just a reminder to parents that the elections for the new Parent Board will take place this Thursday, here at the Upper School, doors open at 7pm for voting at 8.
