Morning all..

Filed under: Daily Messages — Mr Handisyde @ 7:16 am

Greetings to you all and apologises for not being at school at the moment. As some of you know I wasn’t feeling too well on Friday and infact went home in the afternoon to try and make sure that I had a rest and didn’t miss out on all the fun of the autumn fayre on Saturday. Well I went in to try help sort things out on Saturday morning and actually didn’t feel much better but was determined to stay. Other people had better ideas and sent me home where I fell asleep on the sofa. I was disappointed to miss out on the fair and I have heard great things about it. I heard that it was very busy and that through everyone’s efforts a lot of money was raised by all. WELL DONE EVERYONE! I was particularly sad to miss the Dear Future presentation between our Year Six children and the students and teachers at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. I know some photos were taken so I’m looking forward to checking those out when I get back.

On Sunday I popped in and picked up some work to do here from home so I kept my germs to myself. Seemed like a million years to answer all my Emails and then another 400 years to make even more changes to the ECA programme…that’s a HUGE job! Well I still have enough work here to keep me going today so I’ll sign off and get on with my work and hope that I’ll be back to see you all tomorrow.

Oh, before I forget, enjoy Healthy Eating Week and I wonder what delights Mrs Tiggelovend has prepared for us today?

Autumn Days

Filed under: Daily Messages — Mr Handisyde @ 6:58 am

Morning all, strange that it’s Friday and yet I’m still saying “See you tomorrow”… but hopefully I will! Remember it is our Autumn Fayre tomorrow between 13:00 - 16:00, and at the same time there is a presentation of Year 6 “Dear Future” work at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. Hope to see as many of you as possible. Hoping for great weather and a fun day!

Shaking all over!

Filed under: Daily Messages — Mr Handisyde @ 6:36 am

What a fantastic time was had by all yesterday with Mark and Paul from Shake Rattle and Roll. Kaori certainly had fun and she added a comment to our blog yesterday. Sofia also added a comment saying how colourful everyone looked in non-uniform, even the teachers! Why not add a comment of your own and let us know your opinion. Photos of Shake Rattle and Roll will follow soon (sorry I forgot the lead to download them from my camera!)

Non-Uniform Day

Filed under: Daily Messages — Mr Handisyde @ 6:58 am

Morning all, Hope that you all remembered today is a non-uniform day. The purpose of the day is to come to school bressed in normal clothes and rather than raise money by doing this, raise donations for our bottle tombola at our autumn fayre. Please leave your bottles in the boxes by the door to the Junior School this morning before you go in to school.

A second treat today is we have a musical extravaganza with a visit from Shake, Rattle and Roll and will all be doing a Samba workshop. Your teachers will advise you about the timings of this.

Year 6 will be continuing their collaboration with the Rietveld Academy on the project “Our Future” and everyone is welcome to view a presentation of their work during the autumn fayre on Saturday between 13:00-16:00

Dear Future

Filed under: Daily Messages — Mr Handisyde @ 6:22 am

Saskia Janssen and Uta Eisenreich are graphic design teachers next door at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. This week children in Year 6 are working with them and a number of their students on a project called “Dear Future”. The focus of the project is to consider what Earth will be like in years to come, how we humans affect its change and how we ourselves may change over time. A presentation of their work will be at the Rietveld Academy on Saturday 26th between 13:00 - 16:00. As this is also the time of our Autumn Fayre, I hope that many of you can visit and see the work produced from this exciting collaboration.

Morning, bloggers!
Arktos is at home having a wash today after a very busy weekend. Watched SCD 3 times, went to a party and went to see Mamma Mia too! I’ll show you all the photos in assembly on Friday. A fun packed week ahead with Year 6 doing an art project at the Rietveld Academy, Shake Rattle and Roll music day on Wednesday which is also a non-uniform day to get donations for our bottle tombola for the autumn fayre on Saturday. Hope to see you all there!

Have a great weekend!

Filed under: Daily Messages — Mr Handisyde @ 6:54 am

Sorry, bloggers, running a bit late today and lots to do…..need to teach 5A and find some time to reply to all of you as to which clubs you can join. Please remember when you get your club confirmation letter to put the dates (from the booklet) on your school calendar. I’m still waiting on some paperwork from the (extremely popular and oversubscribed) InMovement teachers so these clubs wont start until the following week.

Oh, and remember SCD starts tonight! Keeeeeeep dancing!

Phew!

Filed under: Daily Messages — Mr Handisyde @ 6:21 am

The last two days have been an absolute pleasure as I’ve been teaching Mr Armoogum’s (and some of Mrs Miles’) children. We’ve had a great time learning about Roald Dahl in Literacy, different methods for finding the difference in mathematics and healthy eating in Science. Mr Armoogum is back today but I’ll be back in 5A again tomorrow morning for my usual time there. Looking forward to it, 5A, you’re GREAT!

Of course having so much fun in the classroom during the day has meant less time for me to sort clubs. These are pretty much sorted now and I just need to look again at some second choices for some children on the waiting lists. I will be writing back to each of you to state which of your club requests I’ve been able to arrange for you to join.

Parents, I look forward to seeing you all at our UJS meet and greet this afternoon at 16:15.

Parents Information Meeting

Filed under: Daily Messages — Mr Handisyde @ 6:55 am

The Upper Junior School will be holding a parents information meeting tomorrow afternoon, Thursday 17th September 2009, from 4.15pm until 5.15pm.

This is your chance to come along and find out about the learning experiences which your children will be involved in this year in our school.

The meeting will begin in the school hall with a brief talk from Mr Handisyde. Parents will then have the opportunity to discover what will be happening in each year group from the year group teachers themselves. Of course, there will also be plenty of opportunity to ask questions!

We hope to see you there!

Last Chance!

Filed under: Daily Messages — Mr Handisyde @ 6:17 am

Thank you to everyone who has returned their Extra Curricular Request form. Please remember I need to collect ALL requests today so I have time to sort them and see which clubs are viable. There seems to be quite a range at the moment with some clubs undersubscribed and a few with waiting lists already. I am looking into possibilities of appointing further teachers of oversubscribed activities. Unfortunately those activities which are undersubscribed will be cancelled until the spring term. Most clubs start next week but this is not the case for every club. When you receive notice of which activities I have arranged for you to join, please remember to transfer the dates to your copy of the school calendar.
