Busy Week

October 25th, 2007

After the excitement of last weeks drinks, it seems to have been a quiet week - not a lot of photo opportunities or places to put work on the weblog!

Numeracy has been lots of number tricks and skills for adding and subtracting numbers close to 10, 20, 30 and other multiples of ten. Also, we have been finishing and reviewing our Science and History topics.

In literacy we have been describing things carefully!
Look at this picture below. What ways to describe the picture can you come up with?
Write a comment and let us know!

Magic Measurments

October 10th, 2007

This week in our Numeracy work we are busy measuring the length of things in and out of the classroom.  We are using metres, centimetres and millimetres - depending on the item we are measuring.

Science - Submerged Shells

October 5th, 2007

In Science today we did an experiment using egg shells. As part of our Teeth and Healthy Eating topic, and matching with our Design and Technology topic of Drinks, we were looking at the effect of different drinks on our teeth.

Egg shells are similar to teeth in the way that they react to certain drinks. We put half an egg in to cola, milk, water, fizzy pop and orange juice.

We were quite amazed at what happened.

The egg in the cola and the orange juice got thinner and cracked more easily. Also the brown colour of the egg could be rubbed off! We thought this was amazing!  The inside of the eggs also changed colour, in cola it went brown.

The egg in the fizzy pop became thinner as well. The inside didn’t change but the colour outside became soft and could be rubbed off.

The egg in the milk and the water didn’t really change much at all - they did seem a little whiter.

Can you think WHY this happened?  Post a comment on our web log if you have a good idea!
ALSO - What do you think they will be like AFTER the weekend?
